Dear serpell,
will you please refer to Governor, Hong Kong's telegram No.144 of the 4th February about expatriation pay
You will see that the Governor withdraws his reservation regarding expatriation pay for women on basic salaries of over £700 p.a., but makes a proposal regarding his other reservation expatriation pay on basic salaries between £1200 and $1400 p.a.
I attach a draft reply to Hong Kong approving the second of the Governor's alternatives for modification of the rate approved for expatriation pay on this basic selery range. The second alternative is the less expensive of the two. It raises the expatriation pay rate of £231 to £250 p.a. on the narrow basic salary range of £1276 - £1400 p.a. we feel that for the reasons given in paragraph 2 of the Governor's telegram we should accept this, subject to une receipt of no comments from Calaya within
a further seven days.
I hope you will be able to agree to this.
and
9.N. SERPELL, ESQ., O.B.E.
Yours sincerely,
(....I.J. wallace)
